Steve Littlefield - President and Founder
Steve Littlefield, a 26-year U.S. Army Combat Veteran, served in both Iraq (2004-05) and Afghanistan (2010), gaining a deep understanding and personal experience of the challenges veterans face after service. A lifelong Halifax, MA resident, Steve holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University. He is currently pursuing a Master’s of Education in Mental Health Counseling at Bridgewater State University, working toward licensure as a Mental Health Counselor with a desire to focus on men’s mental health - in particular veterans, police officers, and firefighters with trauma-focused therapy. With experience as a former police officer on Cape Cod and his current role as the Veteran Service Officer in Halifax, Steve brings a wealth of expertise to his mission. In February 2025, he founded Veterans Next Step Foundation to provide veterans with mental health guidance & resources, assistance for essential needs, and a trusted support network — free from bureaucratic obstacles.
Beyond his professional service, Steve is a dedicated Halifax Youth Baseball and Basketball Coach, fostering community engagement and resilience among the town’s youth. As a father and husband, he values the tight-knit Halifax community. He often draws on his own experiences as a veteran to connect with those he serves, ensuring they feel seen and supported. Motivated by the shortcomings of large organizations that often fail rural veterans, Steve is committed to ensuring no veteran is left behind. His leadership drives Veterans Next Step’s vision to expand and deliver impactful support, drawing on his diverse background to advocate for veterans with unwavering dedication.
Steve is an avid golfer who participated in the 2022 Warrior Open, a golf tournament hosted by President George W. Bush for post-9/11 Wounded Veterans, and an active member of the President’s “Team 43.” He also is a member and proud supporter of the Salute Military Golf Association, which had an integral part of re-kindling his love for the game. Steve is also a musician, occasionally playing in the local area with hits from his glory days of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
